Oh, You Do Speak English Fluently.....

I'd never have guessed that you did.  I hate when you are reading something online and the grammar is atrocious -like worse than can be acceptably ignored- and you think to yourself, 'It's okay.  This person probably speaks English as a secondary language or something.'  Because I see a lot of people who write in English, even though its not their first language, so they can improve.  And then you check out the part of the site where this particular person tells you about themselves and you find out that they not only speak English, but its their first language and they live in a nation that is primarily English-speaking!  What is wrong with these people that they can't spell 'the' or use the right form of  'to/too/two'?!  Its bad enough that the English language is being butchered every time we utter a word.  Would it kill them to edit a little bit or actually learn to string a sentence together?  I'm not saying I never mess up or speak/ write incorrectly, because I know I do.  However, there is a line that you can cross from reasonably incorrect English to is this even English?

  1. I hear you. I know my grammar isn't the best sometimes, but I personally know people who type and make so many mistakes on words that are very simple. If people would actually apply what they learn in their high school/college English classes, the Internet wouldn't make me feel so dumb whenever I read something.

    1. I swear if I see another story written mostly in chat-speak or with at least 17 cases of 'the' being spelled 'teh', that I will scream. You would think that they would at least pay attention to the lines that must appear on their document from the spell check!

  2. I see it as, if you don't at least attempt to write grammically correct, then your words aren't important. I always have fun when I'm on Facebook and people constantly spell something wrong, I comment intricately how to be grammically correct. And Dictionary.com is a great and easy way to check your spelling. Not to mention really fast.
So, I am glad that I am not the only grammarly sane person in this world! :D
